LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Might Be the Biggest LEGO Game Yet

Batman fans are finally getting a brand new LEGO Batman game this month, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is shaping up to be far more ambitious than previous entries in the series.

Developed by TT Games, the upcoming title launches May 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and later on Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike older LEGO Batman games that focused mostly on level based gameplay, Legacy of the Dark Knight introduces a massive open world Gotham City inspired heavily by Rocksteady’s Arkham games.

Players will be able to freely explore Gotham using Batman’s grappling hook and glide mechanics while stopping crimes, solving puzzles, completing challenges, and discovering hidden secrets throughout the city. The game also includes multiple drivable Batmobiles and Batcycles, including iconic vehicles like the Tumbler.

One of the biggest surprises is just how much inspiration the game takes from the Arkham series. TT Games has confirmed the combat system was directly influenced by the Arkham games, featuring combo based fighting, gadgets, detective mechanics, stealth inspired gameplay, and cinematic takedowns. However, the game still keeps the classic LEGO humor and co op gameplay the franchise is known for.

The game features seven main playable characters including Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and Talia al Ghul. Each character has unique gadgets, skill trees, and abilities that affect exploration and combat.

Customization also appears to be one of the game’s biggest features. According to Warner Bros., players will be able to unlock more than 100 suits and outfits inspired by Batman’s history across comics, movies, TV shows, and previous games. That includes classic comic inspired suits, Batman Beyond content, Arkham inspired cosmetics, and even special crossover outfits.

Players who pre order the game will receive The Dark Knight Returns Batsuit as a bonus cosmetic. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition includes 72 hour early access beginning May 19 alongside multiple DLC packs featuring extra suits, Batmobiles, Batcave customization items, and additional themed content packs inspired by Arkham, Batman Beyond, and other parts of Batman history.

The amount of content packed into the game already looks massive. Alongside the story campaign, players can explore Gotham City, complete side missions, unlock collectibles, customize the Batcave, upgrade characters, unlock vehicles, and tackle optional challenges spread throughout the open world. TT Games has described the project as a “celebration of all things Batman,” and early previews suggest it may end up being the most ambitious LEGO game the studio has ever made.
