GTA 6 Could Take Around 80 Hours to Beat, According to Rockstar Developer

GTA 6 took approximately 80 hours to beat, according to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, who completed a playthrough of the highly anticipated game in February 2026. His playthrough included the main storyline alongside optional objectives that can influence the narrative, offering one of the clearest indications yet of just how extensive Grand Theft Auto VI could be.

How Does GTA 6 Compare to Previous Games?

Previous Grand Theft Auto titles have featured considerably shorter main campaigns. GTA V takes approximately 32 hours to complete, while GTA IV averages around 28 hours. GTA: San Andreas takes roughly 31 hours, Vice City around 19 hours, and GTA III approximately 16 hours.

Nelson’s 80-hour playthrough is more than twice the length of GTA V’s average main-story completion time. While his experience included additional narrative content, the substantial difference suggests GTA VI could offer one of the franchise’s longest adventures.

GTA 6 Could Offer Even More Content Beyond the Story

With Vice City returning as part of the expansive state of Leonida, players will have plenty of opportunities to explore beyond the main storyline. Nelson’s playthrough included only some optional objectives, meaning players who pursue additional activities and completionist goals could potentially spend considerably longer experiencing everything Rockstar’s latest open world has to offer.
