Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is bringing Nintendo’s iconic green dinosaur back for a brand new adventure when it launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on May 21, 2026. The upcoming platformer drops Yoshi into the pages of a magical living book known as “Mr. E,” where each chapter introduces new environments, strange enemies, and puzzle focused gameplay mechanics that constantly change the experience.
The game leans heavily into a handcrafted storybook art style, with colorful worlds that look like they were built straight out of a children’s pop up book. Gameplay shown so far features exploration, hidden collectibles, environmental puzzles, and creative enemy interactions rather than focusing purely on speed. Nintendo has also teased mechanics involving collectible creatures that players can discover and interact with throughout different chapters of the book.
Nintendo appears to be using the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware to push the series further visually, with smoother animations, more detailed environments, and dynamic levels that can transform as players move through stages. Early previews have also praised the game’s relaxing atmosphere and soundtrack, which keeps the classic Yoshi charm fans have come to expect from the franchise.
As Yoshi’s first major solo adventure since Yoshi’s Crafted World released in 2019, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is already shaping up to be one of the more anticipated family friendly exclusives on Nintendo’s 2026 lineup. Between its creative art direction, puzzle based gameplay, and classic Nintendo style, the game looks like it could easily become one of the standout platformers on the Switch 2 this year.
